The U.S. is a big country with a vast territory. I think it is useful for understanding it if I learn its states one by one.
I decided to start with the biggest state. Looking at the map of America, I thought TEXAS was the biggest state in the United States. So I picked it. However, when I checked the further information of TEXAS, I found I was wrong. TEXAS is the second biggest state, just smaller than Alaska. Well, even if I made a little mistake, I should take the charge for it. Let me continue the introduction of TEXAS.
First, the name of TEXAS came from the language of Indians “tejas”, which means "friend” or “ally”. Except for this, TEXAS has another name: “Lone Star State”which came from the flag of this state, because the flag of TEXAS just has only one star on it.
Second, in geography, TEXAS is a state of the south-central United States that borders on the southeast by the Gulf of Mexico and south by the Mexico. Texas’s area is near 70 thousand square kilometers.
Third, in weather, most parts of Texas have the temperate climate while the southern part has a subtropical climate.
Fourth, in history, TEXAS belonged to Mexico for a long time. However, in the 1836, TEXAS declared independence. Then in the 1845, Texas joined the United States as the 28th state of the United States.
Fifth, in economy, the TEXAS economy is based on agriculture. It’s GPD in 2008 was just less than California. The amount was 1,224 billion dollars.
Sixth, in city, the capital of TEXAS is Austin, the biggest city is Houston, and the other important cities are: Dallas, San Antonio and Fort Worth.
Finally, the population of TEXAS was 22 million in the 2003 census. Almost one third of the people are Latinos. One fourth of the people speak Spanish.
That’s the information I get about TEXAS. I’m very glad to share with you.
