It’s said that the Chinese new year Parade in San Francisco is the most biggest parade outside China. Hundreds of performers will go through the route and appear traditional actings. On hearing the news, I invited some classmates, Noémie, Hunji, Sanaan, Hana and Jiewei, five beautiful girls, to visit the parade together.

We fixed a time for the meeting at the Market St & 3rd St, which was the place where parade would begin. When I got there at 4:30pm, the police  just got off the ground to block the section where the parade would pass. At 5 o’clock, more and more people gathered alone the Market St.

Some were sitting on the curbstones and some were standing behind the barriers set by the police; some were coming alone and some were with family or friends; some were yellow race and some were black or white. In a nut shell, this place was filled with various people. We came here for the same thing: New Year, New Hope.

I took a picture of an anti-war activist, who was carrying a plate printed “End the War Now!”

When the parade started on time at 5:15 pm, some two girls had not arrived yet. There were so crowded  that I couldn’t keep the place for them.

The parade began! The first group coming was the flags, USA flag and CA flag—I was not sure about this. Then many groups came up one after another, such as congressmen, schools,  organizations etc.

Especially, there were Chinese performances, like “Dragon Dance”.

During the groups passed, the night screen had hung down. It was 7:30pm. We felt hungry and decided to go to China Town for dinner.

After a so-so dinner, we took the bus home separately.

In my feeling, the parade was good, but was far away from the same in China. Maybe this was the parade with USA characteristics.
