I pick up an idioms class this semester, and I learn a lot of interesting idioms. I want to use some of them to composite a short journal.
My 81-aged grandmother is a very straight person. She has little guts to try anything new, while I’m not a wimp. When I try to do something she didn’t know before, she always doesn’t buy it. She says, “Don’t do that. You don’t have what it takes. You will ask for it or get even!” However, when there is food for thought about something ponderable, I will cut corners to be cut out for it.
When I make out finally and feel jazzed, grandma will usually give me a tip that “It’s just your break to get away with it. Don’t push your luck next time. You won’t go the whole nine yards and nobody will bend over backwards to help you.” Thanks for my thoughtful grandma, but I need to schmooze her often to try to let her catch on what I want and what I think. Such as “Grandma, I don’t want to be a flake but a yuppie, like the Present Obama who is up on the most important thing of the United States.” Speak of the devil! Present Obama is appearing on the TV. Thanks to Present Obama. Maybe it can turn her to a little funky person.
In a nutshell, it’s a hard job to convince my lovely grandma to buy my opinions.
